Church Landscaping and Outdoor Maintenance

The grounds at a church or other religious campus can be one of the most peaceful places to spend time, but having the right landscaping makes all the difference.  Beautiful, well-tended landscaping can contribute to the peaceful, welcoming atmosphere of a church, inviting visitors to seek out some tranquil, quiet time for prayer or meditation.

A key element to church landscaping is the right combination of plants and hardscaping.   Colorful flower beds lining walkways and surrounding signage offer beauty and a sense of welcome.  Rose gardens are a nice addition to church landscaping, as roses have a number of symbolic meanings in Christianity and other religions.  Flower beds are a great spot to incorporate religious statues and incorporate outdoor lighting.  Clearly defined and well-tended walkways direct visitors to entryways. Walkways should be wide enough to accommodate couples and families walking together.  It’s important that plant material doesn’t obscure church signage or block any paths.

While churches certainly get the most use on Sundays, you want the grounds to offer a welcoming community space throughout the week as well.  Lawn mowing, garden bed edging, weeding and other maintenance chores need to happen at the end of the week so the grounds look great for Sunday visitors.

Communication between the church grounds manager and landscape contractor is crucial to make sure maintenance services always take place at the appropriate times. Special events (such as weddings, picnics, funerals) pop up that can affect regularly scheduled maintenance. That communication should also include any special instructions about where landscaping trucks should park and where crews should set up so they don't interfere with church activities.

At Lancaster Lawn & Landscaping, LLC, we know all about the special attention and care church properties need. We have several clients, including our home parish Saint Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Rhodelia, Kentucky.  Our maintenance team is on site at least once a week to mow and trim along with performing regular scheduled maintenance at least twice per year (and before special events) in order to keep the grounds beautiful.

Our team has been working at Holy Guardian Angel Church in Irvington, Kentucky this week to prepare the grounds for the annual church picnic which is this Saturday, August 26, 2023.  Make plans to attend this event.  There will be a delicious meal, games, a car show, and fellowship.  There will also be a live auction and all proceeds will go to the church.  Lancaster Lawn & Landscaping, LLC donated a red sunset maple tree, staked and mulched to the auction. The buyer has the option of planting the tree on the church grounds if they would like. The other option would be planting it at their home or somewhere within 30 miles of Irvington.  We hope to see you there!

We would love to show you how to make your church or religious campus grounds a tranquil, beautiful, welcoming space for all. Call us at 270-945-3314 or request a consultation online.
